Does Mobility Tape work?
The great Mobility Tape debate is really two questions in one: does the tape change anything under the skin, and does that change how you feel and move? The honest answer is that the evidence is strongest for comfort, proprioception and circulation, and less dramatic for raw strength gains.
What the tape does mechanically is lift the skin slightly away from the tissue below it. That microscopic decompression is what allows lymph to move more freely, which is why swelling and bruising clear faster when a strip is applied correctly. Applied with tension, the same strip gives a muscle or joint a directional cue that your nervous system reads all day long.
That feedback loop is why people describe tape as 'holding them together' without feeling rigid. Unlike a brace, it doesn't take over the work — it reminds your body where neutral is, so you can keep moving through it.
Where Mobility Tape differs is the menthol and borneol infused into the adhesive. It turns the tape into an active treatment rather than a passive support: the cooling sensation arrives within minutes and many athletes report feeling it for up to 30 hours. It is drug-free, topical and non-invasive, and it is certified by Health Canada.
So: does it work? For support, swelling, comfort and confidence while you train — yes, and consistently. For a personal best on its own — no. Use it as part of a plan, applied well, and it earns its place in the bag.
